  • Ian Watkins, the singer of Welsh rock band LostProphets, who is currently on trial in Cardiff Crown Court, has today plead guilty to numerous child abuse offences, including the attempted rape of two babies. The court has heard that in one instance, he filmed himself abusing a child in a hotel in West London. He was aided by the mothers of two of his victims, aged twenty one and twenty four, who also abused the children and made them available to the singer. Watkins, along with his co-defendents, will receive sentencing on December 18th. A statement from DCI Peter Doyle, the senior investigating officer in the case, reads as follows:

"This investigation has uncovered the most shocking and harrowing child abuse evidence I have ever seen. There is no doubt in my mind that Ian Watkins exploited his celebrity status in order to abuse young children. Today’s outcome ensures that the three people responsible have been brought to justice.

"The safeguarding of children has been the primary objective for the investigation team and the outcome of this investigation has been achieved through a multi agency approach at an international level.

"Two very young children have been removed from this abuse and given a future that would otherwise have been denied them. The investigation has been extremely complex and challenging with key information and evidence being identified from witnesses worldwide.

"A significant amount of electronic data has been retrieved from computers and web based storage which has provided crucial evidence to support the case.

"South Wales Police has worked in partnership with Interpol, other police forces, National Crime Agency’s CEOP command, local authorities in England and Wales, the Department of Homeland Security in the USA and the NSPCC.

"Today’s outcome does not mark the end of our investigations and we will work tirelessly to identify any other victims or witnesses and seek the justice they deserve. Above all this investigation has been focused on the protection of children and my thoughts today are with those victims."

The trial is still ongoing and you can keep up to date with the shocking events at WalesOnline. We will bring you further details as they develop.

Ian Watkins was born in Merthyr Tydfil, Glamorgan, Wales, before moving to Pontypridd, where he joined a number of bands, most notably LostProphets, who have sold over three and a half million records and headlined numerous big name festivals such as Download. They released five albums over their career, the most recent of which was 2012's, "Weapons," which peaked at number nine in the British album charts. Following the charges brought against the singer, the rest of the band decided to lay the name to rest.

Erik and JJ are older brothers to me and have always looked out for my best interests. Knowing I won't be touring and jamming with those guys is a hard pill to swallow, but I'm choosing to pursue my education and establish myself career-wise. I'll miss the world of diehard metalheads who come out to shows and support this great thing we all love. I wish Erik and JJ all the success in the world personally and professionally and have no doubt that Erik will discover some monster drummer we haven't yet heard of. It's what he does!" Adds Rutan: "It's been a great road traveled with Jade as a part of the band for six years, two very special albums and many, many tours across the world. Some of the best times and experiences in my life and career have been with Jade in the band. Jade is like a brother to JJ and I, and we are very proud of all we accomplished together as a band. His loyalty, dedication, and commitment to Hate Eternal is something we'll always be very grateful for and Jade will always be family. This has been in discussion for some time now and we all agreed that it was time for this to happen. We wish Jade nothing but the best with his future and thank him for all his hard work and tremendous contributions to Hate Eternal."

      New single from TANTAL

"Nothing" - the first single from the second TANTAL album "Expectancy".

"This song is about selfishness and narcissistic result of our actions. Chasing a dream we forget about our relatives, beloved and close friends. Seeing nothing but our dream we become blind and do not notice that we lose everything that was worth for us. And no matter what the outcome of this race...in the end we face with nothing".

      NEW RELEASES:

FEAR FACTORY (North America): The band has confirmed 15 dates in North America. These dates are the first live dates by the band since May 2012 and first to truly support The Industrialist since its release. Full tour dates are noted in the tour section below.

ORANGE GOBLIN (World): The countdown is on for the boys from London to land on US soil for their first full tour in years! And all timed for the release of their first live CD/DVD, A Eulogy For The Fans/Orange Goblin Live 2012. Set to hit North American stores on March 12, it contains twelve awesome tracks as captured at Hellfest (France) and Bloodstock (England) last summer. “Red Tide Rising,” “Time Travelling Blues,” “Ballad of Solomon Eagle,” and the #3 Most Added song to CMJ’s Loud Report last week – “The Filthy & The Few.” Full tour dates with Clutch as well recently announced headline performances are noted in the tour section below.

HAVOK (World): The Denver thrashers are now tracking their still untitled third full-length album. Planned for release late June, it follows Time Is Up, the album that truly opened doors for the still young quartet. The band is producing with Terry Date mixing. HAVOK was a performer on Barge to Hell (alongside At The Gates, Napalm Death, Behemoth, and labelmates Corrosion Of Conformity, among others). Watch for more recording details in the coming weeks.

WOE (World): Withdrawal, the third record from the Philadelphia black metal band, is set for release on April 23. Hailed by media since their debut, A Spell for the Death of Man, in 2008, WOE has slowly built a solid fanbase with Metal Sucks saying, “this is the sound of black metal to come.” Teeth of the Divine note, “WOE carve out their own niche amid the US black metal scene without bowing down to either forced brittle Scandinavian worship, post rock injections or self loathing depression.” Pitchfork.com premiered the first material from Withdrawal a few weeks back. To have a listen click HERE.

MEADS OF ASPHODEL (World): Sonderkommando is the second album for Candlelight from these UK-based black metal medievalists. It is yet another dynamic adventure from the inventive band. Stereogum notes, “it’s impossible to nail their sound without just diving in,” when detailing the band’s unique sound. It is hard to pinpoint when you consider the band have covered Stiff Little Fingers, Discharge, the Stranglers, Conflict, Skeptix, the Kinks, and completed a split recording with Mayhem in 2002. Sonderkommando is schedule to be released in North America on June 18.

IHSAHN (World): The days are counting down for former Emperor vocalist/guitarist to touchdown on US soil, performing at this year’s Maryland Death Festival. This will be only the second time the highly respected musician has performed as a solo artist since setting out on his own (following the 2001 demise of Emperor). He is already feverously working on new material which he plans to record in the coming months; songs to be included on his fourth solo recording anticipated for late year. Watch for further details.

EARTH CRISIS (World): The band is expected to begin recording of their first album for Candlelight in August. In the meantime the band recently posted about two projects they are helping/endorse. Visit HERE to buy a tshirt with proceeds going towards Sea Shepherds. And check out vocalist Karl Buechner on this upcoming new album being put out by the folks at Fast Break! Records HERE.

Compressorhead, the world's first all 'heavy metal' band made with robotics, has posted a practice version of its cover of "Ace of Spades" during band practice at the Robocross headquarters in Berlin. In the band's biography, this is how they are described:

"Did you ever wonder what Danny Carey would sound like if he had 4 arms? How about if Angus Young had 78 fingers? Imagine what Robert Trujillo would sound like if he was actually made of metal? Well, wonder no more, meatbags. Compressorhead is the worlds heaviest metal band."

"Stickboy (drums) was created to exacting specifications. 4 arms, 2 legs, 1 head, no brain. He plays a Pearl 14 piece kit with double kick. Stickboy Junior, the bastard child of an unknown mother, takes control of the hihat shuffle. Inception date 2007. Fingers (guitar) joined Stickboy in 2009 and brings 78 purpose built fingers, enough to play the entire fret board and pluck. Bones (bass) is the highest precision bass player in known existence, and the youngest member of the band. Inception date 2012. Stand aside meatbags. Oil is thicker than blood."
