PRESS RELEASE – 29th of Dec 2008 | RELEASE FREE
Masterstroke working on their new album
Finnish melodic heavy metallers MASTERSTROKE have started their new full-length's recording sessions which are planned to last to the end of January '09. Album's releasing date will be announced later. TBA album is just being recorded at MSTR Studios, Tampere, Finland. Record's base, meaning drum tracks were built on Fantom Studios (Korpiklaani, Machine Men, etc.) under Samu Oittinen's supervising ears.
Guitarist-vocalist-song composer Niko sums up the forthcoming album briefly and pithy: "Album will come and kick some serious asses out there, also on live!!!"
MASTERSTROKE released their preceding "Sleep" album year ago. "Sleep" received flattering articles all over the world (e.g. Rock Hard Germany: 8,5 / 10, Metal Hammer Germany: 5 / 7). Band also had a bunch of live performances in Finland and abroad, biggest to mention the supporting slot of German giants Scorppions on Madrid, Spain. "To be honest it was a little bit thrilling moment when we heard, about four hours before the actual gig - and on day off - that MASTERSTROKE will act as support group for Scorppions.", says drummer Janne.
MASTERSTROKE's studio diary can be read at band's web sites, on YouTube one can find possibility to check filming of an European tour.

SEAR BLISS: Zoltán Pál, trombone player of the Hungarian black metal band, Sear Bliss (www.searbliss.hu, www.myspace.com/searbliss), will appear as a guest musician on Sigh's (www.sighjapan.com, www.myspace.com/sighjapan) next album.
Zoltán Pál: "When Sigh announced that they were looking for brass players for their upcoming album, I decided to send them an e-mail. I liked their latest record, Hangman's Hymn, so I wanted to take part in their next album. The head of Sigh, Mirai replied my mail within a few minutes. I was very pleased that he knew Sear Bliss and was aware of what we do. He sent me the score for the songs, and a few weeks later I recorded them in my hometown. I can assure everyone who liked Sigh's music that they managed to take a step even further. It's going to be a masterpiece."
The 8th album of Sigh - entitled Scenes from Hell - will be released in 2009 via The End Records.
Sear Bliss are currently working on their upcoming DVD release. They recorded their 15th anniversary gig in Budapest at the end of November. The DVD will be released in 2009 via Vic Records.

SUBMISSION: Danish melodic death/thrash band have signed a worldwide deal with BLISTERING RECORDS.
The band's second album “Code Of Conspiracy” will be released by BLISTERING RECORDS in early 2009.
"Code Of Conspiracy" is "a grand tour de force in highly technical, yet still melodic and aggressive death/thrash played by highly skilled and ass kicking musicians — it's clear that SUBMISSION holds no fear towards colleagues such as MESHUGGAH, STRAPPING YOUNG LAD, SOILWORK or TEXTURES whatsoever!"
SUBMISSION's new album marks the debut of new singer Lasse Sivertsen, who replaced Steven Qvist, the man behind the microphone on the band's debut album, "Failure To Perfection" (Listenable Records, 2006).
Commented drummer Morten Løwe Sørensen: "I believe SUBMISSION has its own trademark. Our song structures are not common and there is a huge variety within our songs. The music is kind of technical but still with hit potential. Also, we have a range from very groovy and melodic parts to fast blast beats. In metal 'more is more' and I think SUBMISSION climbs that demand without losing perspective."

SYMPHONY DRACONIS: Vocalist survives stabbing and band is back on stage
- Herr Amoth, vocalist of the black metal band SYMPHONY DRACONIS, was stabbed by an unknown person after a festival in Brazil. The musician was severely injured and taken to the hospital in a critical condition and narrowly escaped death. Due to the attack Symphony Draconis stopped its activities until the vocalist was fully recovered.
Right now Herr Amoth is fine and rehearsing with the band, which will be back on brazilian stages in December, playing in Garganta do Diabo Festival with local extreme metal bands, and the 3-day festival IV Orquídea Rock.
Formed by veteran members of south american metal scene, Symphony Draconis released earlier this year its first demo, entitled “Inside The Horned Pentagram”. Samples are available on the band's MySpace page at www.myspace.com/symphonydraconis

Lion's Share: Swedish melodic heavy metal masters LION'S SHARE will film a video for the song "Judas Must Die" in Stockholm, Sweden with director Josef Doukkali. LION'S SHARE previously worked with Doukkali on the clip for the track "The Edge Of The Razor", from the "Emotional Coma" album. The band's original decision to work with Doukkali was based in part on the fact that his background was not in music video but in narrative film projects, and that his more cinematic approach would give the video a unique look and feel.
"Judas Must Die" comes off LION'S SHARE 's sixth album, "Dark Hours", which is scheduled for release in March, 2009 via Blistering Records. The CD was mixed and mastered at Fascination Street in Örebro, Sweden by Jens Bogren, who has previously worked with OPETH, SYMPHONY X, PARADISE LOST, AMON AMARTH etc. The new album features a guest appearance by Michael Romeo of SYMPHONY X.
The band states, “The new songs are simply awesome and everybody that have heard it, think it’s our best album to date. The red thread lyric wise on this album is that all songs are about things that happened in the late sixties; a decade known for many good things. However, we're not describing the happy times of the 60's: We give you the Dark Hours. Musically it’s more straight forward and faster than ever. The songs are filled with energy and great hooks.”

IHSAHN
Progressive solo artist Ihsahn to support Opeth on Norwegian dates
Just thirty three years of age, Ihsahn has traveled far beyond his rural beginnings. In little more than a decade, the largely self-taught musician has amassed a resume that when combined exceeds more than three quarters of a million worldwide album sales. His cumulative professional accolades include a 2001 Spelleman (Norwegian Grammy) Award nomination, 2003 Notodden City Cultural Award, and countless "Best of" class honors in internationally respected metal and rock magazines including Terrorizer, Metal Maniacs, Revolver, Kerrang!, Guitar World and many more. Now with The Adversary and Angl , under his belt the former Emperor vocalist/guitarist steps outside to do his first ever live shows that feature a setlist from both his worldwide acclaimed albums.
Ihsahn had this to say about the live dates.
"I've been getting quite a few live-offers for my solo stuff, but haven't found time to prioritize this until now. I feel this is an opportunity to try out the material live on my home-ground and to travel with a great band like Opeth while doing it."

ABIGAIL WILLIAMS
ABIGAIL WILLIAMS Talk Demi Lovato, Jay-Z And Fans Eating Roadkill
Back in late August, Metal File had an opportunity to chat with Demi Lovato, the squeaky-clean 16-year-old star of the Disney Channel's "Camp Rock." Lovato, who some have dubbed "the next Miley Cyrus," got her start in the business at age 7, as one of the tykes on "Barney & Friends." She admitted to the File that, despite her image, she's something of a closet metalhead — she listed Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, Lamb of God, Dr. Acula, Underoath, Dimmu Borgir, the Devil Wears Prada and Abigail Williams as some of her favorite metal acts.
At the time, Lovato also confessed that she'd secretly love to make metal music at some point, by providing backing vocals for a song on a metal band's album. Ken Sorceron, who fronts Abigail Williams, said his band would definitely be down with working on some material with the teen star, because, well, selling records is a good thing.
"I read she was a fan, but otherwise, I'd have no idea she existed," Sorceron said. "My mom showed me an article online about her being a metal fan, and I was like, 'What?' I was reading it, and I'm thinking, 'What, are you kidding me?' At the same time, I thought that was kind of badass. She was all talking about how she wants to work with a metal band, and I was like, 'Dude, she should sing on our next CD. We'll sell a sh-- ton of records.' Have her people contact my people."
Unfortunately, a collaboration between the Disney sensation and the symphonic black metallers won't be happening anytime soon, what with Abigail Williams having just released their latest LP, In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns, which was produced by James Murphy of Testament, Cancer, Death and Obituary fame. The album, which is in stores now, may just be one of the band's greatest achievements — replete with orchestral movements, Emperor drummer Trym Torson's punishing double-bass brilliance, sinister guitar riffs and Sorceron's gravely vocals, it's an experimental offering that took the band more than six months to track.
"There were a lot of difficulties we'd experienced during the recording of this one," the singer explained. "My computer crashed, and I had hard drives fail on me, so I lost a lot of material I ended up re-creating; I listen back to the CD now, and I'm realizing I forgot certain parts, but that's fine. It sucked. I wrote most of the songs while we were on hiatus — I used that time to regroup the whole thing and find new people to record with."
Sorceron said he'd always wanted to record with Murphy, whom he'd befriended several years ago — he ended up moving in with Murphy for three months while the two worked on the album. At the moment, Abigail Williams is on tour in the U.S., trying to spread the word about In the Shadow of a Thousand Suns. They'll be on the road with the Faceless, Veil of Maya, Neuraxis and Decrepit Birth through November 22 in San Diego, and the band is lining up tours for early 2009 with Cryptopsy, Mayhem and Marduk.

At War: US war metal legends AT WAR will be entering Pyramid Studios on January 4th 2009 to start recording their first album in 20 years, entitled Infidel. Engineering the album will be Alex Perialas best known for his work during the golden age of thrash by engineering such benchmark albums by Anthrax, Testament, Overkill, Nuclear Assault and SOD amongst others.
Formed in 1983 by guitarist Shawn Helsel, bassist and vocalist Paul Arnold and drummer Dave Stone, AT WAR went on to solidify themselves as one premier metal bands in the American underground. After the reviews and college radio play of their 1985 demo Eat Lead, AT WAR went on to release their albums Ordered to Kill (1986) and Retaliatory Strike (1987) for New Renaissance Records. A follow up to Retaliatory Strike was recorded in 1994 but ultimately scrapped which prompted AT WAR to go on an indefinite hiatus only to have the beast awaken from its slumber in 2006 to begin working the material that would become Infidel. After a succession of triumphant return performances throughout the US and Europe in 2008 AT WAR signed with New York's HEAVY ARTILLERY RECORDS for the release of Infidel, their first studio album in 20 years.

OCTAVIA SPERATI: Newborn babies and session musicians for UK dates
"On our last UK tour, Jan-Åge Svendsen and Tom-Erik Svendsen, from the Bergen based band Temple Sleep, joined us due to the fact that our drummer Ivar's girlfriend, and our bass player, Trine, were both pregnant. We are now proud to tell you that both the children are born, in late January and early February, and all is well with both mothers and children! We congratulate the new families!
"But, since it is still early days for the newly borns and their parents, we are bringing the same session musicians for the upcoming UK tour this time as well. Jan-Åge and Tom-Erik did a brilliant job for us last time around, and we are very much looking forward to be playing with them again!"

IHSAHN
IHSAHN: angL set for release
Candlelight Records today confirms 26th May as the European release date for angL, the second solo album from former Emperor vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn. The album features nine new songs all written and performed by the highly respected musician. The album features guest performances by drummer Asgeir Mickelson, bassist Lars Koppang Norberg (both of the band Spiral Architect) and Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth).
Recorded and mixed by Ihsahn at Symphonique Studios in Notodden, Norway (the studio owned by Ihsahn and partner Heidi Tveitan), additional work was completed by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street Studios and Borge Finnstad (Mayhem, Borknagar) at Toproom Studios. Commenting about the record’s musical collaborations, “Asgeir (Mickelson) did such a great job on my last album (The Adversary, Candlelight 2006), that while in preproduction for angL I programmed a much more generic drum track to leave more creative license for him. It was on Asgeir’s recommendation that Lars (Koppang Norberg) contribute to the album. They both recorded at Asgeir’s studio (Multimono Studios) and it came together nicely.”
Working with Mikael (Akerfeldt), “Mikael and I go back as friends since the early nineties. We met up when Emperor headlined Wacken in 2006 and had a great time watching bands together. We talked then about doing something together at some point and in spite of busy schedules on both sides this luckily came to happen. Rough mixes of “Unhealer” with lyrics were sent to Mikael with the idea for both clean and growl vocals. He worked on it during his off-time recording the new Opeth album. I could not be any happier with the results.”
Writing for angL began early in 2007 and picked up momentum after the Emperor US performances early last summer. “I knew to a greater extent where I wanted to go with this album, though I feel all albums are a kind of struggle to overcome. Regardless of how many you make, it never gets any easier.” An aggressive schedule to complete the album, in addition to recording projects for Hardingrock (in which Ihsahn also contributes) and Starofash (released February 26), Ihsahn completed album tracking in early December. With mixing and mastering completed early this year, the musician is already starting promotion with for the album; efforts that will take up much of his time over the coming months leading up to album release.
Track listing for angL (not in running order) is: Alchemist, Elevator, Malediction, Misanthrope, Monolith, Morningstar, Scarab, Threnody and Unhealer.
Spellemann (Norwegian Grammy) Award Nominee Ihsahn (born Vegard Tveitan) began playing music at a very early age. As a teenager, his friendship with Tomas Haugen (a.k.a. Samoth) would trigger the start of his music career – one that to date includes over fifty individual recordings, five high-profile Emperor European tours (the band reaching US shores on only 3 occasions) and the respect of fans and peers worldwide.

REVEREND/BYFIST: bassist
BRENDON KYLE has enlisted in the US Air Force and to say the least we are very
proud of him. Brendon has been sworn in and will become active duty in mid FEB
08. As much as we will miss him, we understand his passion and desire for duty
to his country and applaud him all the way. We wish Brendon a safe and rewarding
career in the military and hope to see him banging his bass once again down the
line. Please feel free to leave comments as I'm sure Brendon would love to hear
from you.
