The most notable reason for the split are the creative differences. The time has come for Unearth to write a new album and creating music with a tight unit is the only way we can assure the best collection of songs possible. The differences between Kerswill and the band started off as subtle, but became increasingly obvious over the past few months and it was time for both parties to go their separate ways. We have shared a ton of great experiences and achieved many of the goals we set for ourselves in the time he was in the band. There is no ill will from either side of this decision and we wish him only the best moving forward... Unearth won't skip a beat, though, as we will be announcing a replacement drummer for our upcoming European stint on the Persistence Tour shortly. "Last show of the year and then we'll take a little break in order to write down the new album - the fourth one - to be released in 2011.
We're just back from Titan Fest we headlined in Aarschot (Belgium) and a show in Rijen (The Netherlands). We had fucking great time and we want to many thanks promoters, fans and bands we've met over there, especially T.C.F. and Prematory, a very young but kick-ass thrash band we've shared the stage with.

Anyway, we're going to leave snowy North Italian weather and reach Lorrach (GERMANY) for METAL FORCES FESTIVAL XIII. We're absolutely excited 'cause we'll share the stage with two of our favourite bands ever: DIAMOND HEAD and BLITZKRIEG!

Lifeforce Records has provided us with the following news:

    Omnium Gatherum
    OMNIUM GATHERUM "New World Shadows"

    RELEASE DATES:
    February 4th, 2011 (D/ AT/ CH)
February 7th, 2011 (UK, Benelux, F, GR, NO, PT, REST OF EUROPE)
February 9th, 2011 (SE, FI, HU)
    March 1st, 2011 (NORTH AMERICA)

Hailing from Finland, OMINUM GATHERUM is a band playing fierce death metal with breathtaking melodies, progressive originality and a discreet sense for superior folk brought together in an over-all dark mood. It’s all about intensity and a morbid atmosphere. This is what makes NEW WORLD SHADOWS, bands fifth album (first for LIFEFORCE RECORDS), so unique and impressing. OMINUM GATHERUM are offering songs for people looking for something different that still is catchy. The moods and emotions swirling in the midst of the cauldron are the result of a challenging dramaturgy based on thinking outside the box and reflected creativity beyond learnt structures.

Formed in 1996, OMINUM GATHERUM have released four albums and one EP for well established labels such as Nuclear Blast, Candlelight and Rage Of Achilles. With their previous two albums – Stuck Here on Snake’s Way (2007) and The Redshift (2008) – the Fins even have entered the official Finnish top-30 album charts, followed by extensive touring all across Europe alongside Dark Tranquillity, Swallow The Sun, Entombed and Insomnium. On their fifth album OMINUM GATHERUM are following their identifiable path being melodic but brutal with contrasts ranging from sorrow to joy and from hope to despair. NEW WORLD SHADOWS is an epic and massive attack of the ever flowing stream of Finnish melodic death metal played straight from the souls of the black!

We have killed every President since Reagan, regardless of party affiliation, and the proof of it is all over the net...but the right-wing tea bag numb-nuts are getting their knickers in a twist over somebody that doesn't even hold office, and in fact left her office as Alaskan governor in order to concentrate on her reality show...and is this woman actually being considered as a potential president? Why does the agenda of the right require that America be viewed as a global laughing stock? Danish heavy metal legend King Diamond recently underwent an open heart triple bypass surgery, which he is reportedly recovering from well. A message from his wife reads as follows:

"Let me catch you all up on the past couple of weeks' happenings, because it affects many things. On Monday, November 29th, King had to be transported to the nearby hospital by ambulance. After several different tests were done and the EKG machine showing abnormalities, the doctors recommended that he get a cardiac catheterization.

"Cardiac catheterization is a procedure where the doctors lead a very thin tube up from the leg and into the heart, where it injects dye into the bloodstream. Then a camera at the end of the tube takes many pictures of the heart's arteries, looking for blockages. After this was done, they determined that King had several heart attacks, and three of his heart's arteries were the cause: one was completely blocked, the second was 90% blocked, and the third was 65% blocked.

"The only solution to this was an open heart triple bypass surgery.

Metal Obsession reports that a Sydney-based religious group on Facebook has seemingly successfully protested against the running of a Black metal mini-festival at Sydney venue Newtown RSL. It is understood that the venue pulled out from the event, and the promoter, Séance Records, has currently postponed the event until another date/venue can be found.

The protesting Facebook group has the following statement as their description, on a profile that has limited public content available to non-members.

This coming Sat 27th November a satanic “Black Mass” celebration is to occur at Newtown RSL – it is simply disgraceful. The advertising which features the insignia of the Church of Satan and an inverted crucifix is encouraging people to come and partake in an “unholy spell to be cast upon the city of Sydney” featuring the “ultimate of soul possessing occult revelations…unbridled blasphemy… [and] a union of all things unholy.

Promoter, Séance Records, has subsequently announced the postponement of the event until another date/venue can be found. They commented in a press release posted on Brisbane based metal forums Brismetal…

Less than two weeks out from the show The RSL board has pulled the plug on Black Mass Festival. They have blatantly cancelled with no prior notice and with no option of negotiation or compromise. They have sadly bowed under pressure from Christians who have lobbied them to cancel the show.

The Christians have launched the full scale of their campaign at the last minute, I believe in a calculated manner to sabotage us to the fullest extent possible. They have done so via a series of facebook pages organized to have the event cancelled. From their website we can tell that these are the same people who lobby against gay & lesbian rights, womens reproductive rights & contraception.

Their actions will cause large scale hurt not to a secret den of Satanists as they may imagine but to normal hard working, tax paying, law abiding Australians. Young people who have taken time off work, rearranged their schedules and family life, then spent money that they probably can’t afford on flights and tickets to the event in the pursuit of a shared love for heavy metal & live independent Australian music.

In response to this turn of events, a rival Facebook group “AGAINST THE CHRISTIANS PROTESTING AGAINST “BLACK MASS” MUSIC FESTIVAL.”

Bands that been announced for the Black Mass festival included Spire, Moon, Astriaal, Sanguinary Misanthropia, Erebus Enthroned, Wardaemonic, Nazxul, and Drowning the Light.

We tried to combine technically advanced parts with some kind of simplicity and directness to get better contrast and avoid being monotonous. There are also some solutions that put more space into music – just to step aside for a moment from death metal standards. There is also lots of melodies , but the album is still uncompromising. “Sacrilege Of Humanity” doesn’t promote hate, but is rather cumulating some form of cosmic energy flowing from minds of five people. We are aware that everything surrounding us is cosmic, and we’re just a small part of it…”

„Sacrilege Of Humanity” is technical, brutal death metal inspired by such genre leaders as Nile, Morbid Angel, Decapitated or Immolation.

Flawless sound of second Calm Hatchery is guaranteed by Hertz Studio, Bialystok where the album was recorded and supervised by Wiesławscy Bros (Behemoth, Vader, Hate).

    Deathraiser
Brazilian raging thrashers DEATHRAISER, who already inked a deal with XTREEM MUSIC in mid 2008 under their previous moniker of MERCILLESS, have finished the recording process for their debut full length album entitled "Violent Aggression" which will see the light in February 1st, 2011.

DEATHRAISER is a truly young band hailing from Minas Gerais whose only previous recording was a demo in 2007 and ever since they've been carefully working on the completion of their debut album which took way longer than what they expected, but it was worth the wait!! It's not easy to hear such an aggressive album in nowaday's overcrowded Thrash scene!!

DEATHRAISER's style developed from a very basic KREATOR-influenced Thrash to an insanely intense style which reminds pretty much to INVOCATOR's first demos because of it's sheer merciless intensity. Other influences can be found in bands like DARK ANGEL, SADUS, VIKING, SACRIFICE...

"Violent Aggression" includes a killer front cover artwork by polish artist Andrey Bouzikov who already worked with bands like MUNICIPAL WASTE, CANNABIS CORPSE, VOETSEK, SKELETONWITCH amongst many others. An advance track for the forthcoming album can be heard at the band's official MySpace: www.myspace.com/deathraiser666

Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan will be recording together again along with Iron Maiden's Nicko McBrain and Deep Purple's Jon Lord to benefit an Armenian music school. Recording under the moniker WHOCARES, the first charity single will be titled "Out of my Mind."

In 1989 Tony Iommi and Ian Gillan were involved in the recording of the Deep Purple track "Smoke on The Water." This song was re-recorded to raise money for those affected by the Leninakan earthquake that struck Armenia in 1988.

In October of last year both Tony and Ian travelled to Armenia to see how the funds raised had helped the local community. On their trip they visited a music school only to find it being run out of temporary accommodation, it was only location not to have been rebuilt 20 years after the earthquake had struck.

Tony and Ian will be heading back into the studio, joined by Jon Lord (ex Deep Purple / Whitesnake) and Nicko McBrain (drummer of Iron Maiden) to record a new track to raise money to rebuild the Armenian music school.

More recently bassist Jason Newsted (Metallica, Flotsam & Jetsam, Voivod, etc.) and guitarist Mikko "Linde" Lindström (H.I.M.), have added their parts to the track "Out Of My Mind" from the all-star charity project.

The Ocean has announced on Wednesday, October 20th, the band was robbed on a highway near Madrid. The band issued the following statement:

"Two guys in a black BMW pulled us over with fake police IDs. They asked for our van papers and IDs and wanted to know if we had any money to declare. We were not skeptical at this point, as it is normal in Europe that you have to declare larger amounts of money when you're crossing borders, so we told them we had merch money with us, and the guy wanted to see it. When we showed them the merch wallet, the guy reached through the open window, seized it and ran back to the BMW in front of us, where his colleague was waiting with the engine running. Unfortunately our van and trailer don't match the speed of a BMW, but fortunately it's not allowed to carry guns in Europe, as otherwise we would be in jail now for shooting the guy in the face.

"We are facing a loss of + 6000 euro of merch income of the last days and fees. The exact amount is still to be determined. As some of you may or may not know, conditions on support tours are usually grim. Fees are low and barely cover expenses for van, gas, highway tolls, ferries etc. There is no accommodation arrangements, we've been crashing out on people's floors for weeks. Losing more than 6000 euro is something we simply cannot afford at this point.

"We are asking everyone who is planning to order Anthropocentric in the next few weeks through our shop to help out. You can do so by donating 5 Euro when you place your order. All income generated through this will make the loss smaller for us. Everyone who donates 5 Euro will receive a copy of the police report and a Thank You card signed by all band members. We would like to thank you in advance for your support!"

Fans can donate at this location.

It was to be two weeks through the States on a Harley-Davidson.

On Tuesday, October 5, about 50 miles from Las Vegas, the group had stopped at the roadside to put on their rain gear as it had started to rain. On the slippery road, the trailer of a passing truck began to skid. The driver attempted evasive action but his trailer clipped five of the motorcycles parked at the roadside; one of them hit Steve Lee. Rescue services attempted resuscitation but efforts were stopped after 20 minutes. At 16:13 local time, Steve Lee was pronounced dead.

"We are in pre-production with HBO and BBC to do a miniseries. It’s exciting. I probably shouldn’t say too much about it except that I understand that there’s a thousand hurdles before anything shows up in your TV listing. It’s been an interesting and very educational process and it cleared the HBO hurdle a few months ago and now we’re writing drafts back and forth. So it’s very much alive and incubating at the moment.

"BBC was the first to show interest and came on as the studio. Our writer is Daniel Knauf from ‘Carnivale’ and he’s busy with pages right now and revising the overall world Bible. It’s been an interesting collaborative effort but I’ve learned that [television development] moves at a glacial pace."

If I were to compare ‘Forsaken At The Gates’ to any of our old songs, it would be ‘March Into Fire,’ which was one of the first songs that I'd ever written in my life. Ironically, ‘Forsaken…’ was the last song we'd written for Omega Wave. Funny how things work.

Sweden's Scarpoint has issued the following announcement about donating the profits from the release of a new song to an anti-bullying campaign for Swedish schools:

"Hey fuckers! So finally we can give you the news we've waiting for to give you for over a year now. When we recorded the album we also recorded a song with a bunch of our friends on it. Why?

"It all begun back in 2008 when we read an article about a young boy from Örebro, Sweden, who was repeatedly physically bullied at school, receiving hits to both his head and his face. He came up with the idea to pay other pupils with his own toys for protection. The school tried to put a stop to it but to no avail and as a result the boys suffered from difficult psychological problems. When we read this, our hearts was shattered into thousands of pieces. We could not imagine that a Swedish school would fail to this degree in regards to protecting this young boy.

"This is just one of many examples that further confirm that the lack of sufficient anti-bullying programs in schools negatively effects our future generations. Not content to just sit around and do nothing, we, Scarpoint, decided to take action and call some of our friends and try to give something back to the kids that listening to our style of music. We also decided that every single Krona/ Pound/ Dollar/ Euro/ Yen/ Franc/ Peso/ Rupee/ Ruble/ Lira, whatever, that is generated by sales of this song that would normally (hopefully) find their way to us will go directly to an anti bullying campaign for Swedish schools. This project has been fully funded by us, Scarpoint, along with the generous assistance of all the people involved who gave their valuable time, knowledge and talents to the project, so there is no money needed to be recouped, and it all goes to the cause.

In a recent report by Martin Beckford of the British newspaper, The Telegraph, an English Reverend stated that heavy metal has many important values that Christians could learn from. The report reads as follows:Christians could learn a lot about life from listening to heavy metal, according to a Church of England cleric. The Rev Rachel Mann claims that the much-maligned form of music demonstrates the "liberative theology of darkness," allowing its tattooed and pierced fans to be more “relaxed and fun” by acknowledging the worst in human nature. She says that by contrast, churchgoers can appear too sincere and take themselves too seriously.
The priest admits that many will be “concerned” about metal lyrics praising Satan and mocking Christianity, but insists it is just a form of “play-acting”. Miss Mann, priest-in-charge of St Nicholas’s, Burnage, writes in this week’s Church Times: "Since Black Sabbath effectively created it in 1969 by using the dissonant sound of the medieval ‘Devil’s chord’, heavy metal has been cast as dumb, crass, and on, occasions satanic; music hardly fit for intelligent debate, led alone theological reflection."And yet, as both priest and metal musician and fan, it strikes me that the Church, especially at this agonized time, has a serious gospel lesson to learn from this darkest and heaviest music."Read the full article at Telegraph.co.uk.

Vegan, straight-edge band Earth Crisis wrote the song "To Ashes" about Walter Edmund Bond, who has now been arrested and charged with burning down a sheepskin factory. Guitarist Scott Crouse further has commented on the situation:

"Recently Walter, the man whose actions inspired our song ‘To Ashes,’ has been arrested on alleged arson charges. Our motivation behind writing the song ‘To Ashes’ was to show the passion and frustration of a man who reached his boiling point. The extremes that Walter went to save his brother’s life we find inspiring, mainly because they were acts of property destruction against his adversaries, not acts of violence. We wanted to simply document what many in the straight edge community already deemed as a heroic and selfless action. Regarding Walters current arrest, we don't have much to say since right now they are merely accusations until he is proven guilty.

"We were also beyond disappointed that we didn't get a chance to play last Sunday at The Sound and Fury Festival. It was a weekend of canceled flights, wondering if all the members would even make it out here and three trips to LAX. Hey, at least we can all say we saw a motorcycle in the pit right?

"So far we have about four new songs written and are hoping to start working on vocals this fall. The plan is to have 10 new songs and re-record a few older songs that are live set staples. We are hoping to start recording in January 2011 with an as of yet undetermined producer."

Bassist Jeroen Thesseling of German technical death metal act Obscura was recently interview by Peta2 regarding his stance on vegetarianism. An excerpt from the interview follows:
Peta2: What prompted you to become vegetarian? Were there any bands, books, etc. that influenced your decision?
Jeroen: I decided to become a vegetarian about 16 years ago at that age when young people become aware and conscious of their decisions and the world in general, about life and what you want to stand for. Also some people around me were already vegetarian which stimulated me to make the same step. Moreover, I have great respect for nature and animals in general. The decision to never eat meat again was natural and logical.
Peta2: What are some of your favorite vegetarian foods?
Jeroen: I love Italian cuisine. For me it is the most tasteful food, with endless meatless possibilities; and best to enjoy with a glass (or bottle) of Italian red wine. I also like Indian food from time to time.

Trent Reznor has issued an update on what he's been up to, including writing the score to the film "The Social Network." Here's Reznor's update:

"I was planning on taking some time off after the continual waves of touring that ended last fall and spend this year experimenting around with what would become How To Destroy Angels and some new NIN. Well, that plan didn't work out so well. David Fincher started inquiring about my interest in scoring his upcoming film, The Social Network. Yeah, the movie about the founding of Facebook. I've always loved David's work but quite honestly I wondered what would draw him to tell that story. When I actually read the script and realized what he was up to, I said goodbye to that free time I had planned. Atticus Ross and I have been on a creative roll so I asked him if he wanted to work on this with me and we signed on.

"Months later, I'm happy to tell you we're nearing the completion of this and I couldn't be happier with how it's turned out. The level of excellence that David operates on is inspiring and the entire process has been challenging and truly enjoyable.

"As Atticus and I near the end of the scoring process, we're looking forward to the next phase - distilling the large amount of music we've written for this down to a satisfying record (or two). The film opens Oct 1 in the US with the record likely available a couple of weeks ahead of that.

"Speaking of the film... it's really fucking good. And dark!"

Led Zeppelin have been caught yet again with another copyright breach.

The classic Led Zep track 'Dazed and Confused', believed to have been a Jimmy Page classic for more than 40 years was in fact stolen from folk-singer Jake Holmes.

Holmes wrote and recorded 'Dazed And Confused' on his 1967 album 'The Above Ground Sound of Jake Holmes'.

Jimmy Page even covered it when he was in The Yardbirds but when the song appeared on the first Led Zeppelin album in 1969 it was credited only to Jimmy Page, who has pocketed the royalties ever since.

Now, Jake Holmes, aged 73, is finally suing.

Ironically, Page has no trouble crediting Orchestra leader David McCallum as suggesting he use a violin bow on his guitar for the song. McCallum's son, David McCallum Jnr is best known as the actor in Man from U.N.C.L.E (Illya Kuryakin) and NCIS (Ducky).

Led Zeppelin are notorious for ripping off songwriters. 'Whole Lotta Love' was later proven to be an old Muddy Waters tune 'You Need Love'. 'Babe I'm Gonna Leave You' was in reality a Willie Dixon tune and 'Boogie With Stu' was actually 'Ooh My Head' by Ritchie Valens.

Jake Holmes filed a suit with the US District Court for the Central District of California last week. He wants royalties and damages for the song.

    Faith Or Fear
After a 19 year hiatus, all the original members reformed in May 2008.
They embarked on a successful string of aggressive and energetic live performances which quickly attracted the attention of "LOST AND FOUND RECORDS" President "BRYAN J. ANDERSON," who had a vision to make public, lost FOF archives written in the mid 80's and early 90's, as well as reintroduce FOF back into the thrash music scene. The result, "INSTRUMENTS OF DEATH," a collection of previosly unreleased material, and re-recorded versions of these extremely rare, lost classics. A mixture of old and new, it is a realistic history of music which best describes "FAITH OR FEAR" to it's very core!
The last message from the band so far, is that they will go into studio this summer. Be sure to visit their MySpace site for updates.

Motivated by the BP disaster and its devastating effects, KORN is taking a stand by launching a boycott against using the company’s gasoline while on tour this summer. The band has formally announced that it will not be fueling any of its touring vehicles with BP products and is strongly encouraging other touring artists to do the same.

“The daily images are hard to watch,” says Korn frontman Jonathan Davis. “We need to do our part to let BP know there are consequences for causing something like this. We want to send a message to corporations like BP so that they will take more preventative measures in the future. The more costly their punishment, the more money they will spend to make sure disasters like this don’t happen again. It’s plain and simple capitalism.”

In a timely coincidence of life imitating art, Korn’s new album artwork, photography and stage set imagery reference the band’s hometown area near Bakersfield, CA and its bleak landscape littered with oil rigs. The video for the first single “Oildale (Leave Me Alone)” reveals a poverty-stricken area situated among the rich oil fields and tells a story of a young boy’s desire to escape. The video story echoes the band’s own struggle out of Bakersfield. Davis adds, “It was one thing for us to grow up near such poverty. But the situation in the Gulf takes things to a whole new level where people’s lives and livelihoods are affected forever.”

Korn will spend their summer as a headliner on the third annual Rock Star Energy Drink Mayhem Festival playing in 14,000 to 30,000 seat amphitheaters. “We urge the other acts on Mayhem and anyone on tour this year to be with us on this,” Davis also said.

Korn is touring to support their upcoming album, due out July 13, 2010. The title, "Korn III – Remember Who You Are," is a reference to the band’s past and is a nod to their roots.
