Having been credited with the creation of the grindcore genre, many people will claim that Napalm Death are among the most influential bands in the world of extreme metal and some people will go so far as to say they were the last band from Great Britain to have a signifficant impact on the world of metal. Like many great British metal bands such as Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, Napalm Death were formed in the Midlands area of England, starting up in 1981 in the village of Meriden, just outside of Birmingham. The band recorded a four song demo in 1982 and continued to perform regularly until towards the end of 1983 when they imposed a hiatus of sorts, with only one concert being performed in 1984 (a benefit show for the striking mine workers.) The band would return permanently in 1985 and performed many shows at their local pub The Murmaid, which was known to host hardcore matinees on the weekend. The band achieved a stable line up when drummer Mick Harris joined the group, complimenting the guitar sounds of Justin Broadrick and bass player/vocalist Nic Bullen. This lineup of the band recorded the first half of the now classic album, "Scum" in 1986, however before they could record the B-side to the album, both Broadrick and Bullen left the band. Harris recruited Bill Steer (later of Carcass fame) on guitar, bass player Jim Whitely and friend of the band, Lee Dorrian to join as the groups new singer, even though he had never sang before. This lineup recorded the second half of "Scum," completing what is now regarded as a classic in the field of extreme metal. The band replaced Whitely with bass player Shane Embury and recorded their second album, "From Enslavement To Obliteration" which was released in October of 1988 before Steer left the band to focus on Carcass full time and Dorrian quit to form the now legendary doom metal band, Cathedral.

The band recruited vocalist Mark "Barney" Greenway, of the British death metal outfit Benediction and their first international members in the form of Mexican guitarist Jesse Pintado, who had previously been known as the guitarist and founding member of Terrorizer and second guitarist Mitch Harris (who is from the United States of America) after touring with Bolt Thrower, Carcass and Morbid Angel. This lineup of the band recorded only one album, "Harmony Corruption" before Mick Harris decided to leave the band to form Scorn, leaving no members of the "Scum" lineup left. Napalm Death replaced him with American drummer Danny Herrera. These band members would then continue throughout the the 1990's recording eight albums together (Greenway was briefly fired from the band in 1996 and replaced with Extreme Noise Terror vocalist Phil Vane and while Vane never recorded with Napalm Death, Greenway recorded vocals for the Extreme Noise Terror album, "Damage 381" before returning to Napalm Death following the dismissal of Vane.)

In 2004, Jesse Pintado left the band and Napalm Death has since continued as a four-piece, releasing a string of critically acclaimed albums in the form of "The Code Is Red... Long Live The Code," "Smear Campaign" and most recently, "Time Waits For No Slave." Jesse Pintado sadly passed away in a hospital in Holland in 2006, after suffering from a liver failure. Napalm Death are a unique band because not only are they themselves regarded as hugely influential, but so are practically every band related to them. Lee Dorrian's Cathedral have become known as one of the best doom metal bands of all time and Bill Steer's Carcass has similarly been recognised as one of the greatest death metal bands in history. Justin Broadrick's bands Godflesh and Jesu have become recognised as influential and groundbreaking and even bands that only had small links to the band such as Extreme Noise Terror and Terrorizer have since become known as legends in the field of grindcore. While Napalm Death are often imitated, they are, as they say, never duplicated.

Hellhound80s underground thrash metallers HELLHOUND have reformed and are currently recording their first new material in over 20 years.

The band will perform new and classic songs during its January 9, 2010 concert at the Venuez in Santa Clara, California.

Formed in the early '80s and based in San Francisco's South Bay area, HELLHOUND developed concurrently but independently of North and East Bay acts such as LEGACY, DEATH ANGEL, FORBIDDEN EVIL and HEATHEN. HELLHOUND eventually shared stages with all these bands during the thriving thrash scene of the mid-Eighties. Before disbanding in 1988, they had played shows with the likes of SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX.

Since its untimely demise, HELLHOUND has built a strong cult following due to CD releases of their classic demo tapes. It was after the most recent release, on Stormspell Records, that four out of the five original members decided to finally reunite and expose a new generation of metal fans to the music of HELLHOUND.

Varg Vikernes, the man behind the legendary one man black metal band Burzum, has announced that he will be answering questions that are submitted to him by fans. A message from his website's webmaster reads as follows:

"From now on an interview with Varg Vikernes is being prepared, which will be coincided with the release of the upcoming Belus album in March 2010. Within a month I expect various questions from you which you can send to battlegrim@yandex.ru (with a subject: Question For Varg Vikernes). But only most exciting, unique and surprising questions will be forwarded to Varg Vikernes. Think your questions over carefully, you have enough time for this. Please don't forget to add your details, such as real name/surname (if possible), edition (if you are a representing journalist), country and location.

"A lot of messages are expected, thus I may not have a possibility to reply and comment each message from you. But don't worry: if your message hasn't returned, then it's read and aggregated. The results of the interview will be published on the site."

Varg Vikernes, the notorious leader of the one man black metal band Burzum, has posted a message on his website in which he questions the forthcoming movie based on the book, "Lords Of Chaos," which is about the early Norwegian black metal scene. His message reads as follows:

"The first question that came into my mind when I heard about the plans for a Lords of Chaos movie was 'why'? Why on earth would anyone want to make a film based on that worthless book? How is it even possible when the book is made up of nothing but a number of inaccurate interviews, supplemented by unfounded claims and meaningless and utterly ignorant theories by the writers? When I saw that I was a character in the movie I was even more puzzled, and my next question was naturally; "can they even do that?" They never asked for my permission to use my name or my story.

"Now, they are apparently basing the story of this movie not on my story, but on the Lords of Chaos story. Unfortunately the Lords of Chaos story is not only nonsense; incoherent and utterly contradictive, but it is also very lacking in information regarding the lives and traits of the individuals to be included as characters in the movie. One could easily think that this would make it impossible for anybody to make a movie based on this book, but of course if you simply fill in the holes yourself...

"As I write this I am smiling, because this is funny. In a bizarre and weird kind of way it really is. They base it on a fictional story that is based on real events and poorly written by two ignorant amateurs, then write a script without ever talking to anyone who might know something about the story the two ignorant amateurs base their story on, and then have a few more Hollywood individuals re-write the script a few times, to make it fit into the Hollywood-mold, of course. What are we left with? Well; another Hollywood movie "based on real events", of course. (You don't actually think the other Hollywood movies "based on real events" are any better, do you!?)

"I honestly couldn't care less about what this movie might do to the contemporary Black Metal scene, or what it might do to any other metal scene for that sake, so I am not even going to discuss that. Being an egocentric and egotistical bastard I naturally only care about what this movie might do to me, and you know what? It cannot hurt me, no matter what. It can only increase my market value, so to speak, making it easier for me to sell more albums, publish and sell more books, and so forth, so... It'll give me even more freedom to do what I want. If I want to I can always tell the true story myself, later on, and even more individuals will be interested in the true story if these guys make the movie. I don't know if they have considered this, or if they care at all, but this is a fact."

A video recently surfaced of Marduk vocalist Daniel "Mortuus" Rosten slamming a fan who got on stage on their December 6th in San Francisco's DNA Lounge. Put in context of the recent attempt of a fan to light a bible on fire and subsequent pepper spraying incident, perhaps this is a reasonable overreaction.

Metalunderground.com columnist David S. Grant (aka Rockstar_Scribbler) has released his latest book, "Rock Stars: The rise, fall, and rise of 80s glam frontmen into pop culture." "Rock Stars" is a look back and forward with the glam metal singers from the eighties. Accompanied by illustrations of each singer (courtesy of by Joel Gwidt), "Rock Stars" takes a tongue-in-cheek look at both the careers and music created during this time.

Here are some excerpts from the book:

"...Wearing tight acid washed jeans, Jon Bon Jovi made no qualms about putting "pop" back into rock. Videos focused on his ass made it appear there was an unspoken jeans rivalry between Jon and Joe Elliot of Def Lepard..."

"...I have to rethink everything regarding Rob Halford since he came out of the closet, turning from ferocious front man of Judas Priest to fierce. In hindsight there were signs. The video for "Hot Rockin" was pretty much just a bunch of guys working out in a gym. Hello!!..."

"...Sebastian Bach and Skid Row made music for the kids smoking cigarettes behind the school. Music for the kids that owned denim jackets, but didn't have the money for fancy patches (instead, forced to scribble SKID ROW across the back with a black Sharpie). Essentially, Sebastian Bach made music for the bad kid in The Breakfast Club..."

The book features twenty-eight mini-profiles detailing strengths, weaknesses, and X factors ranging from Kip Winger's hair, David Lee Roth's use of the microphone, to Bret Michaels reality series comeback. Think Behind The Music on cocaine.

You can purchase "Rock Stars: The rise, fall, and rise of 80s glam frontmen into pop culture" here.

In a recent update, former Iron Maiden and Wolfsbane vocalist Blaze Bayley has revealed that his solo band was recently harassed and attacked after performing a concert in Agrino, Greece. Two men reportedly hit a member of the band's entourage with their scooter before following them back to their van and throwing a brick through their window. An account from Bayley himself reads as follows:

"Agrinio was crazy - a really intimate packed-out gig with plenty of crazy fans and the odd crowd-surfer.

"After the fantastic gig we stopped on the way back to the hotel at a late-night pie shop. I was talking to support act Fury UK's manager when two drugged-up youths on a scooter drove towards him.

"I grabbed him out of the way so he wasn't hurt, just dazed. The scooter boys seemed to think it was our fault - but we'd been standing at the side of the road and they were coming at us at 30 miles an hour.

"It didn't stop there - they followed our van, and at traffic lights the weedy-looking one on the back managed to throw a large brick, shattering the side window and narrowly missing our manager. Lucky for us, no one was seriously hurt. The cowards ran away before we could clobber them. It was a horrible end to a great night.

"Now all the money from the gig goes towards replacing the van window. It hasn't put me off Greece - but I never thought pies would be so dangerous."

Photo of Burzum

Varg Vikernes of Burzum, who was recently released from prison in Norway, has issued the following announcement about releasing a new album titled "The White God:"

"As You might already know, my dear ladies and gentlemen, and others individuals too, I am no friend of the modern so-called Black Metal culture. It is a tasteless, low-brow parody of Norwegian so-called Black Metal anno 1991-1992, and if it was up to me it would meet its dishonourable end as soon as possible. However, rather than abandon my own music, only because others have soiled its name by claiming to have something in common with it, I will stick to it. The ‘black metallers’ will probably continue to ‘get loaded’, ‘get high’, and in all other manners too behave like the stereotypical Negro; they will probably continue to get foreign tribal tattoos, dress, walk, talk, look and act like homosexuals, and so forth. Some of the ‘black metallers’, their fans and accomplices will probably even continue to pretend - and actually believe - they have something in common with Burzum, but let me assure You; they don't! I play what can be described as some sort of metal music, all right, and they do too, but the similarities ends there. Freud wrote books. Tolkien wrote books. The similarities ends there.

"Why more of Burzum? Well, I am what I am; a musician. Musicians produce music, when they can, and now I can; I am no longer imprisoned by the criminal anti-Norwegian regime in Norway. Will my music be any good? My guess is that if You like Burzum You like Burzum. If You don't You don't. I do try to change all the time, but most of the time I fail, and many appreciate that. Others don't.

"The coming album is called ‘Den Hvite Guden’ (The White God) and is a musical and lyrical description of the the White God (alias Apollon, Baldr, Belenus, Belus, Bragi, Byelobog, Jarilo, et cetera) and the annual events of his life. I describe the stories of the myths like they could have been before they were myths, by presenting to You bits and pieces of the sorcery and religion of ancient Europe (more elaborately described in my unpublished book ‘Trolldom og Religion i Oldtidens Skandinavia’ [Sorcery and Religion in Ancient Scandinavia]). It is not intended for play the ‘low-brow metal’ style, but instead I imagine a listener willing to sit down, ideally in solitude, and think for a minute, about the White God and our forebears, whether they were Picto-British, Finnish, Gallic, Greek, Roman, Scandinavian, Scytho-Slavic, Daco-Thrakian or whatever, and about their magnificent, intelligent, positive, beautiful, healthy and strong culture. I try to help You create an image of this with the help of Your own mind, by offering a few clues and guidelines. The album is political only in the way that it offers an alternative to the depravity offered to us by the intrusive popular culture and the commercial entertainment industry - and by modern so-called Black Metal, for that sake.

"The début album was intentionally anti-commercial and anti-Death Metal, the ‘Det Som Engang Var’ album was experimental, the ‘Hvis Lyset Tar Oss’ album was intentionally monotonous and ritual, the ‘Filosofem’ album was intentionally different from the others, ‘Dauði Baldrs’ was what I could do from a prison cell, and ‘Hliðskjálf’ too, but they were all music that I liked. ‘Den Hvite Guden’ will be no different in that respect, but I am older now, in fact twice as old as I was when I recorded the début album, and I am therefore different. The new album might differ from the old albums more than some might appreciate, but I hope not. Even if some of You might appreciate the old Burzum, I must be allowed to evolve, just like everybody else. Maybe You will like the new Burzum too. I will not do my best to copy and reproduce my old music, just to please somebody. I never did and I never will. If it sounds similar it is because it is made by the same person. If it sounds different it is because it is not the same music and because I have evolved.

"I can add that just like on the other metal albums (with the exception of ‘Hvis Lyset Tar Oss’) ‘Den Hvite Guden’ features some very old Burzum tracks. ‘Filosofem’ featured the ‘Burzum’ track, from 1991, and ‘Den Hvite Guden’ will feature the ‘Uruk-Hai’ track, from 1988-1989, although the title and the lyrics have been changed to fit the new concept. It will also feature the original ‘Dauði Baldrs’ metal track, from 1993. In a sense this album too will not be ‘new material’, but just a collection of previously unpublished tracks; some new, some old. If some think my composing skills have disappeared altogether, then at least there will be some gems for them too.

"You can expect to see ‘The White God’ around March-April (anno 2010), when he traditionally returns from the hidden world of shadows."

In a recent message to the band's fans, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine has spoken in a highly critical manner of Roadrunner Records, the label of which Megadeth is currently signed to. The full message reads as follows:

"I hope that everyone that is in a band and has been watching how things have transpired are taking notes. This record has been out for weeks and weeks, and no radio play from the radio person at Roadrunner, nothing. Zero.

"But that should be expected; this is the same guy I HAD TO ASK to get me interviews. Talk about a Gomer moment!

"Now, I am going to be forced to rely on my own radio station to play Megadeth, but that's ok, I seem to be doing the label's job everyday, in every city, and I am used to it after these last two records.

Members of the legendary Norwegian black metal band Mayhem and their road crew were arrested in the Netherlands early this morning after the entire contents of their hotel room in Tilburg had been destroyed.

The group had given a performance on Sunday in a cafe in Tilburg and had booked a night at Hotel Central. Monday morning an employee of the hotel found a big mess. Plants were thrown on the street, mirrors, a sink were broken and strips in the bathroom were pulled off and demolished. The beds and television were destroyed and walls were covered in spots.

The hotel estimates the damage at least 5000 euro. The men, aged 21 to 45 years, are from Netherlands, Norway, Finland and France. The suspects remain tied to a compensation of the damage dealt.

THE GERMS for the first time in Europe
Thursday November 26 013 - TILBURG

With Don Bolles, Pat Smear and Lorna Doom in 3/4 original line-up THE GERMS 4-weeks European Tour will kick off in London on November, 23rd.On vocals - Shane West, the original actor from 'What We Do Is Secret', the movie about the band that lost with Darby Crash one of the most exciting and tragic characters in US Punkrock in December 1980.

Shane West might be better known as Dr. Ray Barnett from the successful US series 'Emergency Room' or as Tom Sawyer in the movie 'League of the extraordinary gentlemen'. So it's obviously not the financial reasons that Shane took over Darbys part in THE GERMS. Impressed by his parents that both played in Punk/Wave bands like the US TIMES and THE PARALLELES, Shane was into Punkrock since he was kid and THE GERMS always have been one of his favorite bands. So for him it is more like an honour to be the new singer in one of the most popular US Punkbands of all times and if you see videos from THE GERMS this years US Tour you will get an impression why the feedback on their recent live shows is so damn good. Ah ... and ... by the way ... Shane cancelled an offer for being one of the main characters in 3 seasons
in the US series '24' with Kiefer Sutherland, because it would have jeopardized their THE GERS US tour.

Another matter for money being not the reason for THE GERMS return should be that original guitar player PAT SMEAR is part of the FOO FIGHTERS live band since years which even made it difficult to find a period for the first European Tour by THE GERMS. Actually, before THE GERMS RETURN 2009 the band even never played outside of Los Angeles. Ah, and Pat was the second live guitar player in NIRVANA as well. He's the one that already appeared on the legendary MTV UNPLUGGED show.

Anyways, 2009 is the year of the GERMS RETURN and ... who knows ... it could be the only possibility to see and hear songs like the legendary "lexicon devil" live on an European stage. Convince yourself and search for live footage from their recent US tour on your favorite video portal.

Jam! Showbiz recently conducted an interview with guitarist/vocalist Rob Urbinati of reactivated Canadian thrashers SACRIFICE. A few excerpts from the chat follow below.

On the band's decision to reform:

"When we got back together, we set down some ground rules. We wouldn't pursue this if it wasn't great. We would stop if we thought people would hear what we doing and say it was crap compared to our old stuff."

On the group's comeback CD, "The Ones I Condemn":

"We wanted to revisit the old days of thrash. And we really wanted it to be instantly recognizable as a SACRIFICE album. So the songs had to be fast and they had to be heavy. And one thing we were really adamant about was to record it real — without the new studio trickery like drum triggers and AutoTuned vocals. We wanted to do it all organically. And I feel like this is the best performance I've ever done vocally.

Artist Tom Sanford, whose painting of the assassination of Dimebag Darrell is to be auctioned this weekend, has issued the following statement through his website about the controversy surrounding the piece:

"It seems that my 2005 painting 'The Assassination of Dimebag Darrell' is going back to auction and this has re-ignited the ire of Dimebag’s fans. In fact I learned of the auction through a surge in the regular trickle of hate mail/criticism that this piece engenders. Roadrunner records blog, called Blabbermouth, posted a short (and i thought remarkably fair) article about my painting and the upcoming Phillips de Purdy auction. This post was picked up by various other metal blogs and was heavily commented on by their readers. The post linked to my website, and led to an onslaught of email to me. Most of the email amounted cursing me out while accusing me of crimes ranging from poor taste to exploiting the death of Dimebag. I guess that I am guilty of both.

"Back in early 2005, when I made the painting, the reaction of Dimebag’s fans was actually not on my mind. I was interested in this tragedy as a historical event that occurred in our media saturated world, but was without a defining image of the event. Normally the pervasive 24-hour news and infotainment industry is able to define news worthy events with an image or video. In this case the event was only captured in the accounts of witnesses who saw the horrific event live at the Alrosa Villa. This afforded me an opportunity to make a painting that might be the only visual depiction of the tragedy, and yes I exploited this opportunity.

"In my defense I thought it to be an extremely significant event, and one that needed to be remembered. I thought my painting might help remember the tragedy. The painting is certainly in poor taste, but I think that when one is describing a mass murder, etiquette is really not an issue.

Billboard.com is reporting that Rammstein's new album "Liebe ist Für Alle Da" will be banned from public display in Germany. Excerpts from the article follow:

The album "Liebe ist Für Alle Da" ("Love is For All") by German hard rock group Rammstein - currently at No. 2 on Billboard's European Albums Chart - has been banned from public display in German stores with effect from Nov. 11 on account of its depictions of sadism/masochism, which have been deemed to be harmful to children and young people.

Announcing this ruling, Petra Meier, the deputy president of the Federal Office for the Examination of Media Harmful to Young People, cited the track "Ich tue Dir Weh" ("I Want to Hurt You") as well as the artwork showing guitarist Richard Kruspe with a masked, naked woman on his knees. The Federal Office objected to the fact that the track includes lines such as "Bites, kicks, heavy blows, nails, pincers, blunt saws - Tell me what you want."

The German Federal Office for the Examination of Media Harmful to Young People in Bonn also criticized the single "Pussy," stating that it incites listeners to engage in unprotected sexual intercourse despite the risk of AIDS, although the single was not officially part of the ruling banning the album.

So states the infamous The Onion in what is an excellent parody of the ongoing Aerosmith drama (even if a bit long). Here's an excerpt:

Analysts speculate that the sector-wide layoff was a result of multiple factors, including redundancies in the singing-songwriting division, rising rehab fees that have cost the group millions, and a 34 percent decline in jump-kicks since 2003. In addition, some of Aerosmith's younger, more ambitious employees, such as Joe Perry, 57, are willing to sing and play an instrument at the same time, often for half the salary.

Most thrashers should be well aware of this band, even though they musically ain't a Thrash band. Misfits are still among the favorites of many thrashers out there, and now the band have completed 2 new songs.

Misfits have returned with 2 brand-new,  songs marking the first new original material from the horror rock icons in a decade! The release also marks their first new studio recordings since 2003's billboard chart topping “Misfits Project 1950” covers album. The Ltd. Ed. 12-inch LP maxi single showcases an incredible new cover painting rendered by Arthur Suydam (of Marvel Zombies fame) who has ferociously rendered the Misfits world famous “Fiend Skull” icon in homage to the zombie films of George A. Romero. The artwork is appropriately suited as both new songs (“Land of the Dead” and “Twilight of the Dead” written by Misfits founding member Jerry Only), were inspired by the acclaimed director’s living dead series.
Both songs (“Land of the Dead” and “Twilight of the Dead”) are AVAILABLE NOW for digital download on iTunes, Amazon, and other digital music providers worldwide.

As fans of Hogan are aware, before becoming a wrestler he was an accomplished bass player who earned good money playing in bands.

He states: "I was in England presenting an award with Jerry Hall, Mick Jagger’s ex, and she told me the (Rolling) Stones were looking for a bass player,” Hogan said. “I sent her a ton of merchandise that she asked for and said ‘Tell Mick I’m a great bass player.’ I never heard a word back.

"When Metallica was looking for a bass player, I called and never heard a word back from them either. I would have quit wrestling in a heartbeat to be a bass player for Metallica."

CBS News has reported that Metallica is adding $50,000 to the current $100,000 reward for information about the location of Morgan Dana Harrington, who went missing after a recent Charlottesville show. Excerpts from the story follow:

Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller said Friday the FBI will be able to investigate tips from around the country in the disappearance of 20-year-old Morgan Dana Harrington of Roanoke.

Harrington's father, Dan Harrington, told "Early Show Saturday Edition" co-anchor Erica Hill investigators were to meet with him and his wife, Gil Harrington, on Saturday to bring them up-to-date on the search for their daughter.

Her purse and cell phone were found by a passer-by in the parking lot between the arena and an athletic field, authorities say. Virginia State police say there was no sign of any type of struggle in the area. Harrington's father. Dan Harrington, told Hill his "co-workers have raised $100,000 for a reward, and actually, just yesterday, I received a call from Metallica and they're working on increasing that to $150,000." Police are asking anyone with information to call the Morgan Harrington Tip Hotline at (434) 352-3467. There is also more information at a Web site, findmorgan.com.

PANTHEON I EUROPEAN TOUR BLOG AND NEW PROMO PICS REVEALED

PANTHEON I are due to embark on their 23-date European tour supporting ABSU on Friday 16 October, in Darmstadt, Germany.  To celebrate the tour, the Norwegian extreme metallers, whose line up includes LIVE JULIANNE on cello, KVEBEK (DEN SAAKALDTE, ex-1349) on vocals and guitars, SAGSTAD (SARKOM, TROLLFEST) on guitars, TRS (1349, TYRANN, DEN SAAKALDTE) on bass, and MADS G (THE ALLSEEING I) on drums, have released a new series of promo photos, which, whilst being tongue-in-cheek, are somewhat controversial so a couple of them are only available on the band’s website at www.pantheon-i.com

Commenting on the photos, cellist LIVE said: “The last set of photos we did created a bit of fuss, and even some of the censored ones were deleted from a social networking site.  I would have thought that from the expression on the faces of the male members of the band, it would have been fairly obvious that everyone was not taking the whole thing seriously, but you know how these things go!  Anyway, we did some new ones for the tour, so let’s see how these go down.”

PANTHEON I’s third full-length album “Worlds I Create” was released on Candlelight Records in July of this year.  The band also wrote and recorded a song titled “I’ll Come Back As Fire” especially for the sound track of the horror film “Someone’s Knocking At The Door”.  An official video for the track “Serpent Christ” from “Worlds I Create” was recently debuted on YouTube.

A blog has been set up by the band especially for the tour at www.pantheoni.blogg.no, where a tour diary and photos will be added throughout the three weeks, and fans are also invited to send in videos and photographs. Dates for the tour as follows:

The release also marks their first new studio recordings since 2003's billboard chart topping “Misfits Project 1950” covers album. The Ltd. Alice in Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell and Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian have joined forces to create a new rock bar and performance space in Las Vegas. They plan to launch the venue, Dead Man's Hand, in November.

"We want this to be a place that we would want to hang out in," Ian says. "There's a huge segment of the music audience that likes to go out but doesn't want to go to places that only play Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga and charge $750 for a bottle of vodka. We want to be the opposite of that."

"I always wanted to have a cool joint with some friends that would be a great place to go at night," adds Cantrell, "It's close to Los Angeles, and a lot of cool bands and people hit Vegas. We wanted to make a fun place for everybody to hang."

Some excerpts from the interview are as follows:

Rocket: You told me you’re now working on a new musical project. Is it going to be a solo Dan Nelson effort? Or with a new band entirely?

Nelson: "I have been writing my own music. But I am singing and playing guitar in the band Inside Hollow, as well as working on a new metal project with (drummer) Paul Bostaph (Testament, Slayer, Exodus, Forbidden) that is coming out killer! Where is it being recorded and who is producing it? No set studios or producers just yet. We are still in the writing process with both bands."

Rocket: When can fans expect to see it released?

Nelson: "I would say definitely 2010 for Inside Hollow, and hopefully the same for the other project."

Bassist/vocalist Janne Jarvis of Hate Gallery issued the following statement about being arrested at Pub Anchor in Stockholm, Sweden on October 1st:

“I’ve never experienced anything like it. The bouncers dragged me out and held me down over a barrier outside. I couldn’t breathe and they almost broke my arms. Luckily there were a number of people outside including some journalists who helped me get free. However this was just the start. I managed to make it into the middle of the street and was relieved to see that a police car had just pulled up. I tried to explain what had happened but before they could take a statement the bouncers rushed me and grabbed me again, this time with considerably more force. I pleaded with the police to stop them but they just stood back. They looked like they were panicking and didn’t seem to know what to do or they were ‘friends’ with the bouncers. Luckily some more police turned up and they kindly arrested me and took me away.

"I cannot believe how incompetent and incapable the Stockholm police were of protecting a member of the public from this kind of assault. Members of the police force that I spoke to later were amazed and embarrassed that members of their own department did absolutely nothing.

"Stockholm is a great city but the police have lost control of the streets and are powerless or unwilling to protect the public against these licensed thugs. Sadly these events occur every night of the year all around the world, it’s just a shame that a country like Sweden that prides itself on its anti-violence policies and equality should allow its reputation to be damaged by the impotence and apparent corruption of its police. This has to be stopped.

"If you love music and value your personal safety, I’d strongly advise against going to or playing at Pub Anchor. If you’re an international musician visiting Stockholm then watch your back because the police will not protect you.”

Linnea Olsson of Sweden Rock Magazine, who was present at Pub Anchor, issued the following the statement about the incident:

“I’m sorry to say I’m not entirely surprised by the behaviour of the bouncers, since Pub Anchor is infamous for its ruthless and disrespectful staff. I am however stunned by the fact that the police not only failed to do their job, but even enabled this completely unprovoked act of violence. The police claim to have a zero tolerance approach, which does not seem to be true since they’re clearly collaborating with the bouncers. I will never set my foot in Pub Anchor again and I encourage all bands and fans in Stockholm to follow my example".

Guitarist/vocalist Cayle Hunter explains; “we don't want to be faster or tougher than anybody else. We just want to make heavy music that is UNDENIABLE when you hear it."

New upstart label, FnA Records, uncovers hidden gem from 1985 with major musicians!

FnA Records is set to release a piece of musical history.. In 1985, Heavy Metal band HAWK recorded an album that would never see the light of day. Within the last twenty-four years from when the album was recorded, all the members of the band have gone on to have stellar careers.

Hawk featured Scott Travis who would leave Hawk for Racer X and then eventually become the ongoing drummer in Judas Priest; one of the worlds greatest Heavy Metal bands. Lead singer Charlie Wayne Morrill would eventually front King Kobra and be a major player in the development of the Bullet Boys. Lonnie Vincent also became a member of the Bullet Boys. Lastly, Doug Marks went onto form Metal Method; a highly successful instructional music video company.

Although the band wore a lot of make-up, they were definitely a heavy metal band with tunes like Witches Burning, Overkill, Burning Leather, and Don't Try To Stop Me. The 10 track album also featured one ballad entitled No One 2 Love.

When FnA Records (www.fnarecords.net) uncovered this gem in 2009 and found out that it had been sitting in the vaults all these years, they knew they had to release it. FnA Records named the album LET THE METAL LIVE after one of the tracks on the album and how appropriate that is for the times.

The album is slated for release on September 1, 2009, although it has been readily available online for the last month.

FnA Records, LLC. is a new record label formed in 2009 to bring Rockers and Metal heads some of the best unreleased and hard-to-find music from the 80's and early 90's.  We are also a label that allows you, the fans to bring us music that you remember from "Back In The Day", and to have it professionally released.

Famous electric guitar pioneer Les Paul (Lester William Polsfuss) passed away today at the age of 94. Les Paul reportedly died in White Plains, New York from complications related to pneumonia. Born in Wisconsin in 1915, Paul was involved with music and recording his entire life, and performed on dozens of albums and singles. He made his first solid body guitar design in the late 1930's dubbed "The Log," because it was made out of a normal length of wood. Paul was also known for being involved in the invention of multitrack recording and tape delay.

In 2005, a month shy of his 90th birthday, Les Paul was one of 14 people inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. The electric guitar brought Paul international renown as a musician, won him five Grammys, put him on television for eight years with his wife, Mary Ford, and made Gibson Guitar Corp.'s signature Les Paul Standard a guitar of choice for garage bands and virtuosos on five continents.

"In my wildest dreams, I never thought I would see so many people using them," Paul said in a telephone interview prior to his induction. "I owe it to the rock-and-roll players, especially the Jeff Becks, the Paul McCartneys and Jimi Hendrix. All of them were playing a Les Paul guitar."

"[Gibson] laughed at me for 10 years," Paul said. "They called me 'the guy with the broomstick with the pickups on it.' "

More information on Les Paul can be found at his official website.

EMPEROR TO BE INCLUDED ON BRUTAL LEGEND VIDEO GAME

Norway’s Emperor have been added to the impressive list of artists set to be featured on Electronic Arts forthcoming Brutal Legend video game.  The action-adventure game for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 features Jack Black as the game’s lead character with additional game players featuring the voices of Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne, Lita Ford and actor/celebrity Tim Curry.

Brutal Legend creative director Tim Schafer, used his own music experience as inspiration for the game.  It is the second game from Schafer’s San Francisco-based Double Fine Productions, a company he launched in 2000 after leaving LucasArts.  Electronic Arts’ web-based biography of the game notes it “features the character of Eddie Riggs, a roadie, who is accidentally transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers.  Eddie becomes the world’s savior leading the down-trodden humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar infused with magical powers and a customizable hot rod.”

The game follows the recent release of Live Inferno, a special series of recordings (2cd, dvd, deluxe box, limited 7-inch) captured during Emperor’s 2006/2007 reunion performances.  Professionally tracked and featuring stunning packaging, the series celebrates the Norwegian black metal band’s sold out performances at Norway’s popular Inferno Fest and Germany’s Wacken Open Air Festival.

Forming in 1991, Emperor recordings have sold hundreds of thousands worldwide. Their impact on black/extreme metal ranks them as one of the genre's most influential. Respected by musician, fan and critic alike, Emperor recorded their final album, Prometheus: The Discipline of Fire & Demise, in 2001. Guitarist Samoth and drummer Trym continued together in Zyklon; their third and latest album, Disintegrate, released in 2006. Vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn went on to work with the now defuct band project Peccatum. He produced/recorded the debut from Hardingrock (featuring musical contributions from partner Heidi S. Tveitan from Starofash and famed Norwegian fiddler Knut Buen).  He is currently finishing work on his third solo album planned for release in early 2010.

Additional artists confirmed for inclusion on Brutal Legend include Anthrax, Anvil, Black Sabbath, Carcass, Dimmu Borgir, Enslaved, Judas Priest, King Diamond, Mastodon, Megadeth, Ministry, Motley Crue, Motorhead, Ozzy Osborne, Rotting Christ, Skeletonwitch, Slayer, and Testament.

“Plenty of attitude, some cool riffing and definitely no shortage of solos” Powerplay Magazine

February 2008 saw the release of the bands debut album “Through The Gates of Hell” with reviews from national magazines Rock Sound, Kerrang, Powerplay and Zero Tolerance. Planet Thrash named the album ‘Featured Album of the Month.’ Live TV performances on Red TV and Cue Tracks soon followed in support of the release, and in 2008 they featured on Get Ready to Rock’s ‘Rising stars iTunes podcast’ who claimed Primitai were ‘definitely one to watch.’

“…Battle hymn themes and ‘80’s fun. Kickarse!” Zero Tolerance

Primitai have garnered a mass of radio support for previous single releases with airplay from the likes of BBC 6 Music’s Bruce Dickinson, Total Rock Radio, Rock 247 and BBC Radio Berkshire, plus many, many more. Past singles include “War Cries” and “Primitillian Man,” both with accompanying videos. Their debut single, “Primitillian Man,” reached No 3 in the HMV Rock download charts.

Primitai are a band who can seriously play, and on each [track] here they push both the songs and their own playing abilities to the limit” Get Ready to Rock

Inside sources have claimed that the Norwegian black metal legends Immortal may be to blame for the cancellation of the Romanian metal festival, Rock City Open Air. The source states that the band were paid 25% of their fee in advance as a condition for them to perform. However, although Immortal has pulled out of the show, they are reportedly refusing to pay back the money they owe, which means the festival will not have the money needed to stage the event.
